Individual Psychotherapy for Adults
Graceful Self-Help Counseling provides telehealth individual psychotherapy for adults with Christina F. Reed, M.Ed., MPA, Marriage and Family Therapy Associate.
Psychotherapy is provided under clinical supervision.
A Space to Slow Down and Understand What You're Carrying
Therapy offers a supportive space to slow down, explore what you are carrying, better understand patterns in your life and relationships, strengthen coping skills, and work toward meaningful change.
Many people come to therapy after spending years trying to handle everything on their own. Sometimes stress builds gradually. Other times, life changes suddenly through grief, relationship difficulties, trauma-related experiences, anxiety, burnout, family concerns, or emotional exhaustion.
You do not have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Part of the work can simply be making sense of what is happening and deciding what you would like to be different.
Common Reasons Adults Seek Therapy
- Anxiety, worry, overthinking, or chronic stress
- Burnout and emotional exhaustion
- Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally disconnected
- Grief and loss
- Difficult life transitions
- Relationship or family concerns
- Trauma-related stress or difficult past experiences
- Low self-worth or self-esteem concerns
- Difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries
- People-pleasing patterns
- Emotional regulation and coping difficulties
- Family-of-origin or relationship patterns
- Identity changes and personal growth
- Supporting a loved one affected by addiction or mental health concerns
- Substance-use or recovery-related concerns when clinically appropriate
Therapeutic Approach
Therapy at Graceful Self-Help Counseling is collaborative, relational, systemic, trauma-informed, and tailored to the individual client rather than built around a one-size-fits-all approach.
Christina considers not only the symptoms or concerns bringing someone to therapy, but also relationships, family patterns, experiences, strengths, coping strategies, values, and the larger context of the person's life.
Depending on the client's needs, goals, and clinical circumstances, therapy may draw from approaches and strategies such as:
- Person-centered and humanistic approaches
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Emotionally focused and attachment-informed approaches
- Systemic and relational therapy
- Strengths-based approaches
- Trauma-informed care
- Cognitive and behavioral strategies when appropriate
- Mindfulness, grounding, and emotional-regulation strategies
- Narrative and meaning-focused exploration
The goal is not to force change or tell clients how they should feel. Therapy is a collaborative process intended to increase understanding, strengthen coping and relationships, and help clients move toward changes that are meaningful to them.
A Trauma-Informed Environment
Difficult experiences can affect emotions, relationships, trust, self-worth, coping patterns, and the body's stress response long after the original situation has passed.
A trauma-informed approach emphasizes emotional safety, collaboration, choice, respect, and pacing.
Clients are not expected to discuss painful or traumatic experiences in detail before they are ready. Therapy may begin with understanding current concerns, building coping skills, identifying patterns, strengthening emotional regulation, and establishing a greater sense of stability.
Telehealth Psychotherapy
Graceful Self-Help Counseling is a telehealth-focused practice. Individual psychotherapy sessions are conducted remotely using approved technology.
Telehealth allows clients to attend psychotherapy from a reasonably private location using a compatible phone, tablet, or computer with reliable internet access.
At the time of each psychotherapy session, the client must be physically located in a jurisdiction where Christina is legally authorized to provide professional services.
In-person psychotherapy appointments are not currently offered.
Established clients may receive access to a secure Client Portal for available functions such as intake paperwork, appointment information, telehealth instructions, practice documents, billing information, and secure communication features when provided.
